Telephone and Internet Access

Wire based telephone service to South Hawaii is was by Verizon® but was recently purchased by Hawaiian Telecom.  There is a fairly extensive infrastructure of telephone poles and wire through most of the area, however, you should not assume that telephone service will be available at your chosen location without first checking.  In addition to wire service there is also cell phone service in much of the region, though coverage is not 100%.  The rolling terrain and lack of numerous cell phone towers makes reception spotty.  Both AT&T® (Cingular®) and Verizon® have cell service here.

Internet access has become an important feature for many home buyers.  There is dial up service available from a number of local providers where phone lines exist.  In some areas you may also have access to DSL or cable high speed service.  Recently, wireless internet access has also been added to the Ocean View area, though again it is important to check if you have an adequate signal path from your particular lot. Though relatively expensive, it possible to get high speed internet access by a direct satellite link service such as Starband®
