Ginger Ar.ne Sandell was raised on the mainland and traveled to Hawaii in 1974 on vacation.
She fell in love with the ocean and the beauty of Hawaii so she sold all her possessions and moved to the Big Island where she raised her four sons. While raising her children she earned a Bachelors' and a Masters' Degree at the University of Hawaii. She went on to obtain her Certified Public Accountant certificate and founded her own CPA firm. She retired from her CA practice in 2020 and is now focusing full time on her painting career.
Ginger has exhibited in San Diego, ArtBlend and Miami Spectrum in Florida, and the New York Art Expo. The artist has also participated in numerous juried shows as well as several solo and group exhibits here on the Big Island.
She earned a Masters of Fine Arts from the Academy of Art in San Francisco in 2019. Ginger has worked with many mediums including watercolor, pen and ink, pencil, charcoal, acrylic, gouache, and colored pencils. Her primary medium is oil. Though she primarily focuses on seascapes and landscapes, she also enjoys figurative and abstract art. Ginger paints in an impressionist, abstract style where line, color, and form may vary from the more realistic portrayal of the world. She uses a style called "painterly realism" and has studied with prominent artists including: Darrel Hill, Craig Nelson, Sunny Apinchapong-Yang, John Poon, and Scott Burdock. In our fast paced modern society, with the focus on technology, Ginger hopes that her art will remind others of the beauty of a sunset, the mystery of nature, and the other simple joys in life. She feels that creativity has both a tactile and spiritual nature. Her art is her meditation.
