"Mists of Ka‘u"
Ka‘a is the southernmost and largest district of Hawaii Island, reveling in its distinctive natural environment of forested wetlands hosting rare flowering foliage and blankets of ferns which thrive within its nine diverse ecosystems. It is also home to Hawaii’s most common native species of ʻōhiʻa lehua, which dominates the slopes of Mauna Loa. The wood is used for poi boards, traditional weaponry, and varied cultural purposes, while the brilliant red lehua blossoms are a favorite in cultural ceremonies and practices. Ed painted this scene on his home property.
